Sadly we've learned from
Jay that the Osmond's old home in
Ogden, Utah (where it all began) is being leveled by developers
on August
1, 2006.

It was 228 N. Washington
Blvd. in Ogden when the boys started
singing Barbershop. As Ogden was developed
the house number changed to 330 N Washington Blvd,
but the memories remain the same.

A couple of years ago Merrill returned to Ogden for a benefit concert
for relief of the Tsunami
victims. While there to perform
he took some time out to visit his old home.
Merrill shared many
stories that he wrote about in his book.
Here is telling about the boys reform school that used to
be across
the field and how he feared those guys.

Learning about the leveling of
their old home reminded Jay of when the movie "Side By Side"
was made. He said their mother made certain that this home was visited and
researched
completely, so that the scenes in the movie were very realistic. "That was
something
that Mother made sure of, it was very important to her," said Jay.

The
current owner was kind enough to let him take
a look around the inside of the house and Merrill
has some fun reliving many of the the events that
took place in the home.
In this photo Merrill is showing that
this was the
barrack type bedroom they had where each of
their beds were lined up. In front of each bed
was a trunk and a closet for their clothes.
Merrill was saying that this shelf was his closet.
Yes, it was in the middle!

He also talked about
how he came back here to milk the cows very early in the
morning and how it was NOT his favorite thing to do.

The developers may be taking the house down &
it probably doesn't mean a lot to them, but to all of
us.... 228 N. Washington Blvd will
always be sacred ground.
